Nakia Stokes is a native of Jackson, MS. She currently resides in Byram, MS, a small city outside of her hometown, with her husband, Taronta, and daughter, Trinitee. With a degree in Economics from Tougaloo College and an M.B.A. from Jackson State University, she shows remarkable writing and acting abilities. Known for having such a witty spirit, she is often told that she attended college for the wrong major.

Although Nakia suffered a number of tragedies during her childhood, including sexual abuse, God has allowed her to rise above the hurt and turn the pain into power. He has brought her from tragedy to triumph. After the storm, God anointed her with unspeakable joy in her life and the gift to usher joy into the lives of others through writing and her mere presence. Writing is a passion for her and this is the birth of the vision God placed in her to reach souls.

Her debut novel, Unbound, was released in October of 2008 and has already made the best-selling list. Her short story, “Mister, are you my daddy?” is featured in a Christian anthology titled Bended Knees that was released in November 2009. In June of 2010, Kia Stokes was featured in the Who’s Who Inaugural Edition Publication. Nakia is currently working on her second novel, Hidden Hurt and Kesi’s Chicken Fingers Collections. Both will be released early 2012.

Nakia has traveled with Gospel stage plays, where she had leading roles, and have also written and directed short plays. “What Kind of Christmas is This?” is her debut stage play production. Aside from her acting and literary endeavors, she is a born-again believer in Jesus Christ, and her greatest desire is to please God and to walk out her destiny. She is a strong believer that all things are possible through God with the proper sacrifice of prayer and fasting.

Nakia spends most of her time with her loving husband, bonding with her daughter, family, friends, traveling, and serving the community with the sophisticated women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Upsilon Upsilon Omega Chapter. She is a member of Christ Covenant Church International where she serves at a children’s Sunday School teacher and Asst. Youth Director. (Clinton, MS)
